Dear International Class of 2024,
Thank you for your patience over the past several months. As we eagerly awaited the College’s announcement about plans for the Fall 2020 semester, the entire FIP team has been working hard to ensure that this year’s FIP will, as in previous years, prove a fun, enriching, and informative experience for the incoming class of international students, regardless of its format.
That being said, we are excited to announce that FIP 2020 will be taking place virtually between August 3rd and August 16th, 2020. As usual, participating in FIP will be 100% free, and any student who feels that they would benefit from our programming directed towards international students and those who have primarily lived abroad is welcome to sign up.
During FIP, we will offer a variety of virtual programming designed to facilitate relationship and community building, inform and answer students’ questions about life at Harvard (and indeed ‘Harvard Zoom’!), and provide a wealth of resources for a fulfilling and successful time at the College. Over the course of the program, we will host chill online games and socials like ‘FIP (platonic) speed dating’, provide a space for conversations about everything from the social life on campus to academics and extracurriculars, and demystify some of the more functional topics like working for pay on a student visa.
We will be keeping our traditional family structure, which entails assigning students into groups of 9-12 incoming first-year students with 2-3 assigned upper-level student leaders, or “FIP parents”. We hope to keep these groups as diverse as possible, while being cognisant of the natural constraints imposed by differences in students’ time zones and availability. Irrespective of the composition of your individual family, there will of course be many formal and informal opportunities to meet and form friendships with international students from the other families.
FIP has always been exceptional for the strength of the friendships made over the course of the program, and we are confident that this year will be no different -- particularly given the quality and passion of our wonderful leaders! We are looking forward to bringing you into an amazing community which will stay with you over and beyond your time at the college.
Please refer to the Pre-orientation website for further details about registration for the program. Do not hesitate to reach out to Ruth (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Michel (email@example.com) with any questions about FIP 2020, or simply to chat.
