What can FIPers talk to you about?
Honestly anything: I'm happy to talk about anything and if I can't be helpful about something I'm happy to find someone who can talk to you about. I guess some topics I am more so knowledgeable on is the Asian American experience at Harvard, freshman and sophomore experience, start up culture at Harvard, food recs, 'greek life', and Apley Court if that's the freshman dorm you got!
Why should a first-year choose FIP?
I think FIP gives you a family like none other on campus and brings together some of the most exceptional people you'll meet at Harvard. Everyone at FIP is on the same boat having moved from their country to a completely new one. I think this shared background coupled with this shared pre-orientation experience really helps people form bonds for the next four years and beyond. FIP becomes a home base and the people become family. I can't recommend this program enough, it was probably one of the best decisions I've made at Harvard and my roommates and best friends are almost all people I initially met at FIP.
Jane was born in LA but moved around to Paris, Shanghai and Hawaii before settling down in Singapore. She takes the pronouns she, her, hers and is currently a rising junior living in Lowell House. Last year, Jane declared East Asian Studies as her concentration and loves it so much. Outside of academics, she spends her time working on the Crimson business board, occasionally dancing with the campus hiphop group Expressions and helping out with events for the Asian American Association and the TA (Themis Asteri). If you run into her on campus she's probably holding iced coffee even if it's snowing. No matter how busy Jane is, however, if you say hi to her or reach out, she'd love to chat and actually grab a meal and get to know you. In her free time, Jane loves to host wine nights, paint with friends, go out for food, have late night talks or go out dancing with friends. She is super excited to have to welcome everyone to Harvard and meet all of you.
